Making Memorial Weekend Memories

“Memorial Day, an American holiday observed on the last Monday of May, honors men and women who died while serving in the U.S. military. Originally known as Decoration Day, it originated in the years following the Civil War and became an official federal holiday in 1971.” –History.com

Most Americans commemorate this holiday by opening their pools for the start of the summer swim season, attending parades, and hosting picnics with friends and family.  Memorial Day seems to be the un-official start to summer, and my husband and I look forward to it every year.

Being eight months pregnant with our first child seems to complicate the plans a little… no tubing down our favorite creek or camping this year.  But, that doesn’t mean we won’t be celebrating!

Kick start your Memorial Day festivities with a festive table scape, fresh at home cooking and star spangled DIY projects.

Tablerunner
A great way to add some color and pattern to your table is by creating paper placemats, like this one from Martha Stewart! You can use scrapbook paper, but wallpaper works especially well if you want to make a long table runner. Our blue Stars wallpaper would be a festive option for Memorial Day or the 4th of July.
And, if you have a few extra minutes, add some flair to your favorite pair of jeans with just a few simple steps!

No matter where you are, or what you do this long holiday weekend, take a few minutes to recognize all those in your life who have served in the military and helped to protect our great country.  Happy Memorial Day!
